Fall 2011 Hay Maze

Peter E. Brown
Winner of Woodmere's summer 2011 design competition

Woodmere is pleased to announce Peter E. Brown the winner of the 2011 hay maze competition. Brown, who lives in Fort Washington, is a project designer and project manager at the architectural firm Lenhardt Rodgers. He has worked on numerous projects including: The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, The Caring Center at 31st and Spring Garden Street, Eastern College in St.

Peter's design was inspired by a long-time interest in architectural ruins and sacred spaces– Stonehenge in Britain, The Lowery Pueblo ruins in Colorado, Pueblo Bonita Great Kiva in New Mexico, and the stone circle of Dingle, Ireland. 900 bales of hay were used in the construction of the maze, which has two course high outer walls and a four course rotunda. The walls are two bales thick.
